Local Nature Photographer Cheryl Metcalf on Display

Introducing a new local talent, Cheryl Metcalf, of Tunbridge, and her incredible photos of local fauna on flora. Her unique perspective will invite you to see our world just a bit differently as well as to marvel at its diverse beauty. Check out her exhibit throughout March and support this local artist!

Bio:

Cheryl spends her time dawdling in nature and revels in the discovery of all things living, including native plants, insects, birds, and fungi. As a former educator, she enjoys learning through the use of her lens, and finds pleasure in investigating and unraveling the threads that connect organisms. She has rooted her photography in citizen science and uses her photography as a means for discovery; a way to document, share and marvel at the fragile but thrilling biodiversity that surrounds us.

Cheryl currently volunteers to survey butterfly populations with Vermont Center for Ecostudies, and uses iNaturalist to document the biodiversity around her. She also runs a moth light during the warmer months of the year as an effort to learn more about the pollinators of the night. Most of the images she shares are from her own backyard in Tunbridge, where she serves on the local conservation commission.

Artist Statement:

I approach my photography as an invitation into a deeper noticing of the natural world; a slowing down and being present, an allowing for awe, and an opportunity to engage in a more connected relationship with nature. I have learned that curiosity and wonder can transform individual perspectives and provide a path toward deeper understanding, connectedness, and conservation-minded change.
